SALISBURY, N.C. -- The third-ranked Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters proved too much for host Catawba, pulling away late in the first half and cruising to a 90-61 win in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. LMU improves to 17-1 overall and 11-0 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 5-11 and 2-9.

Catawba stayed close early, scoring the opening four points on John McRae dunks and pulling even with the Railsplitters at 13-13 on a Malik Constantine jumper at the 11:33 mark. Carter Phillips cut a LMU lead to 27-21 with 4:05 left in the in half, but that would be the last basket of the opening stanza for the Indians, who got just a free throw from Constantine in the final seconds before the break.

Leading by just those six points, LMU ran off 14 straight. Nine of the points came at the line with Alex Dahling adding a three-pointer. The Railsplitter run would swell to 23-2, giving LMU a 50-23 lead before Jerrin Morrison ended an eight and a half minute stretch for Catawba without a field goal at the 15:40 mark of the final half.

Catawba shot just 29% in the loss and missed on its first 18 three-point tries. Morrison led Catawba with 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Constantine provided a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

LMU shot 57% in the second half and finished at 47% for the game. Cornelius Taylor led the Railsplitters with 22 points. Doran Pinson followed with 14 points and grabbed nine boards. Romeao Ferguson, with 13, and Trevon Shaw, will 11, closed out the LMU double-figure scorers. Emanuel Terry posted 10 rebounds and scored nine points.

Catawba faces another nationally-ranked squad on Wednesday, hosting #5 Queens at Goodman Gym at 8 pm.
