Thomas and Bohannon Put In Top Finishes at Wake Forest Inv.
WINSTON-SALEM. N.C. -- Catawba returned to action in indoor track on Saturday, competing in the Wake Forest Invitational at the JDL Fast Track. Elyjah Thomas had the best individual finish for the men with a 13th in the shot put, while Maddie Bohannon placed 13th in the women’s 200 meters. The meet will conclude on Sunday with the men’s and women’s 5000 meters.
Catawba’s overall best finish came in the men’s distance medley relay as the Indians finished seventh in a time of 11:11.15. Drew Lake, Rontrel Felton, Tom Joyce and Ethan Bemis made up the relay team which had legs of 1200m, 400m, 800m and 1600m.
Thomas put in a throw of 11.82m in the shot put and came back to place 17th in the weight throw with a distance of 9.82m. In other field events, Jhalisa Bell was 38th in the women’s shot put at 7.86m and Jai Morrow 26th in the men’s long jump with a distance of 5.60m. Dallas Vann cleared 3.35m in the men’s pole vault for 18th place and Samiyah Rasheed was 30th in the women’s weight throw at 6.08m.
In the sprints, Bohannon clocked a 26.72 in finish 13th in the 200 meters. Taylor Marshall was 53rd (29.26) and Bell 62nd (32.21). Evan Wimbush (24.71) was 46th in the men’s 200 with Alec Slusser placing 51st (25.04). Bohannon took 25th in the 60m with an 8.11 and Bell was 73rd (9.49). Wimbush placed 52nd in the men’s 60 with a time of 7.42. Slusser was 65th (7.69) and Vann 74th (8.23).
Siearra Emmerson took 47th in the women’s 400 with a 1:09.89. Slusser posted a time of 59.95 in the men’s 400 and was 60th. Jordan Hunt put in a time of 2:49.40 in the women’s 800, finishing 36th. Emmerson was 39th (2:56.73). Ethan Bemis placed 32nd in the men’s 800 with a time of 2:09.44. Austin Snide took 42nd (2:12.68) and AJ Meadows was 43rd (2:15.16).
Joyce had the best finish in the distance runs, running a 4:43.95 in the men’s mile to finish 21st. Felton placed 33rd (4:52.59), Henry Brenner 44th (5:12.88) and Snide 45th (5:17.46). Christina D’Amelio’s time of 6:13.86 in the women’s mile put her in 38th with Hunt finishing 41st (6:25.94).
Lake clocked in with a 9:40.90 in the men’s 3000 to finish 24th. Michal Swepson was 26th (9:43.89), Logan Bemis 30th (9:49.76) and Brenner 36th (10:15.42). In the women’s 3000, Paula Sellers was 29th (11:52.04), D’Amelio 31st (12:06.29) and Lexie Petty 36th (12:42.69).
