Rogers and Brown Post Double Figures in Win Over Tusculum
GREENEVILLE, T.N. - - Terri Rogers posted her fourth double-double of the season in women’s basketball action as the Catawba Lady Indians defeated host Tusculum College on Saturday afternoon in Pioneer Arena. Catawba’s 71-66 victory improves them to 12-8 overall and 10-3 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Pioneers fall to 13-6 and 8-5 in the SAC.
The Lady Indians shot 34% from the field. Rogers led Catawba with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Serena Brown added 18 points and six assists. Tusculum shot 45% and was led by Kendrea Duke’s 19 points.
Catawba began the game with a seven point run in the first minute of play. Tusculum answered and took a four point lead with 45 seconds remaining in the first 10-minute period. A three-point basket by Madison Hallman put Catawba within one to begin the second quarter.
Taisha DeShazo hit a three in the opening minute of the second 10-minute period to put the Lady Indians back on top. The second quarter remained a tight battle, but Catawba prevailed and finished the half with a one point edge to go into the break.
The Lady Indians came back from the half time break and built their advantage to 10 midway through the third quarter. The Pioneers climbed their way back to tie the game for the fifth time, but Catawba went on a 11-3 point run to close out the third 10-minutes with a 53-45 point lead. Catawba controlled the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 12 points.
Catawba will be traveling to Wingate University for a South Atlantic Conference game on Wednesday. Tipoff between the Lady Indians and the Bulldogs will be at 6 pm.
