Baseball Blanked by Palm Beach Atlantic
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Mikhail Cazenave struck out eight over six scoreless innings as Palm Beach Atlantic shut out 18th-ranked Catawba 11-0 in baseball action on Friday night at Rubin Park. It marked the opener for the Sailfish, while the Catawba Indians fall to 0-2.
Catawba managed just five hits, all singles in the loss. Chance Bowden, Jackson Raper, Heath Mitchem, Cameron Morrison and Jacob Nester picked up the Indian hits. Bryan Ketchie took the loss as he was knocked out in the second inning as Palm Beach Atlantic took an early 5-0 lead.
A one-out walk by Joe Butts and a single by Bowden in the top of the first gave Catawba an early scoring chance, but Cazenave retired the next two batters to escape. He retired 10 of 11 batters over that stretch after the early trouble.
Ryan Johnson’s two-out single in the bottom of the first put the Sailfish on top. A second run scored on one of three Indian errors on the night. Palm Beach Atlantic added three more in the second. Eddie Vicinanza doubled home a run, Kyle Simon singled home the second and Riley Herold drew a bases-loaded walk for the final run.
Simon hit a two-run homer for the Sailfish in the sixth and two more runs scored after a two-out error. Palm Beach Atlantic added two more runs in the eighth for the final margin.
