Women's Soccer falls at USC-Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, SC – USC-Spartanburg scored two goals within a seven minute span midway through the second half to defeat visiting Catawba in a women’s soccer action on Wednesday night. With the win, USCS improves to 9-3-1 on the year, while Catawba falls to 12-3-0. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in the first half with only six shots being taken between the two teams. Catawba got the better end of the deal, finishing the opening 45 minutes with four shots. In the second half, the match was much the same, though the tempo was a little faster. USCS goalkeeper Diana Wabnitz made a huge save early in the second half to prevent Catawba from scoring. After a USCS foul, Catawba's Jen Lowe took a direct kick from 25 yards out, lifted a shot over the wall that was slightly deflecting and Wabnitz lunged to her left and made a diving save to keep the match scoreless. The match continued to be a defensive struggle until USCS gained a corner kick in the 70th-minute. Cayce Wampole crossed it to Terra Goswick, who flicked it to Faiza Boujaafar, who put the shot away from three yards into the open net. Venice Willams added an insurance goal on a rebound after a shot by Boujaafar's that deflected off Catawba's Catherine Balentine in the 77th minute.
