Morrison's Huge Night Propels Men's Basketball Over Bluefield St.
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- Catawba turned up for its final two weeks of the regular season with a 76-55 non-conference win over host Bluefield State in men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Shott Gym. The Catawba Indians improve to 9-13, while the Big Blues fall to 8-13.
Catawba closed the first half on a 20-2 run to turn a two-point deficit into a 39-23 lead. Jerrin Morrison had a double-double by the break with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Bluefield State shot just 27% in the opening half.
The Big Blues closed to within seven early in the second half and were down just 50-40 with ten minutes left when Catawba spurted back out to an 18-point lead. Morrison hit two three-pointers in a quick 8-0 run for a 58-40 edge with 8:26 left.
Morrison led Catawba with 27 points as all ten Indians that played scored. He hit on 10-of-17 shots with five three-pointers and pulled down 17 rebounds. He moved past Andre Godfrey into fourth place on Catawba’s all-time scoring list with 1,699 points.
Jeremy McLaughlin was the only other Catawba player in double figures as he scored 11. Jordan Barber had seven points, four assists and three steals, while TJ Jeffers tallied six points and posted five steals.
Korey Williams and Antonio Watson each scored 10 points for Bluefield State. The Big Blues shot just 31% compared to 42% for Catawba.
Catawba travels to Coker on Wednesday for an 8 pm tip with the Cobras.
