Women Set 200 Medley Relay Record on Opening Night of BMC Swimming Championships
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Catawba opened the2018 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimming Championships at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center with a school record in the women’s 200 medley relay. The women picked 61 points on Wednesday and are tied for fifth among seven schools. The men earned 116 points and are sixth of 11 teams.
The relay team of Claire Featherstone, Kristina Rogge, Jess Daniel and Natalie Standard finished fifth in the 200 medley with their record time of 1:47.58. It lowered the previous mark by two seconds that was set last season. Featherstone would lower her 50 back record by four-tenths of second to 26.44 in the leadoff leg of the relay.
In the only individual event, Marcia-Mariel Erhart took 11th in the 1000 free. Her time of 10:47.61 is the 14th fastest on record. Oryan Malul placed 16th with a time of 11:10.18. The 800 relay team of Lea Hartwig, Emily Najar, Malul and Regan Nolan took sixth in a time of 8:00.65, eighth best all-time.
The 200 medley relay team of Arnold Blohme, Federico Borrego Higareda, Joao Barreto and Gatlin Saylors swam to a fifth-place finish. The time of 1:31.00 was the seventh best all-time. King, Matt Arnold, Lukas Helbing and Rhodes swam to ninth in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:05.60.
The Championships will continue through Saturday at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.
