Four Claim SAC Postseason Honors in Women's Basketball


ROCK HILL, S.C. ( -- Catawba’s Terri Rogers and Serena Brown earned spots on the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams, while Tashia DeShazo and Talie Barnes picked up All-Freshman Team honors as the league announced its postseason awards on Thursday. Wingate forward Marta Miscenko and Carson-Newman guard Haris Price were Co-Players of the Year, while Anderson’ Alexis Dillard was voted Defensive Player of the Year. Lincoln Memorial’s Qua Hines was voted as the Conference’s Freshman of the Year and Carson-Newman head coach Mike Mincey was tabbed the Coach of the Year.

Rogers took home first team honors, averaging 16.6 points and 7.6 rebounds. Those numbers rank fifth and sixth in the league, respectively. The senior hit on 45% of her field goal attempts and canned 80% at the line. Rogers, who was injured with a just over a week to go in the regular season, added 12 blocks and 28 steals.

Brown joined Rogers in averaging double figures for the Lady Indians, scoring at an 11.1 clip. She ranked second in the SAC as she dished out five assists a game and also recorded a team-best 32 steals and canned a team-high 46 three-pointers.

DeShazo started in 14 of 28 games during her initial collegiate campaign. She averaged 7.1 points and pulled down 3.6 rebounds. She added 31 assists and registered 32 steals. Barnes made five starts of 28 games and posted 5.3 points and 2.9 rebounds a game. .
Miscenko, a senior from Riga, Latvia, had an outstanding season for the Bulldogs, averaging 16.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Price, a junior from Gatlinburg, Tenn., finished the regular season as the conference leader in points and steals per game, averaging 17.5 points per game and 2.9 steals per game.
Dillard, a senior forward from Taylors, S.C., finished the 2017-18 season ranked fourth in rebounds per game with 8.3 and in blocks with 39 on the year. Hines, a forward from Gatlinburg, Tenn., averaged 8.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Mincey led the Eagles to their first SAC Women’s Basketball Championship since the 1991-92 season. .
