Myers Allows Only Four Hits in Game One Loss to Lenoir-Rhyne
SALISBURY, N.C. - - The Catawba Indians fell to visiting Lenoir-Rhyne Bears 2-3 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Friday evening in Newman Park. Catawba drops to 7-10 overall and 3-1 in the SAC, while Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 14-6 and 3-1 in the conference.
Riley Myers started on the mound for the Indians allowing only one earned run on four hits in 7.1 innings pitched. Clay Young took the loss for Catawba, also only allowing one run on one hit in 1.2 innings pitched. Jackson Raper and Jacob Nester led the Indians offense with two hits each.
Catawba struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Raper led off the bottom half of the inning with a double to left field. A single by Nester advanced him to third and a ground out to the pitcher by Lee Poteat allowed Raper to score.
The Bears tied the game at one all in the top of the sixth and took a one run lead in the seventh. Catawba answered to tie the game again in the eighth on hits by Cameron Morrison, Joe Butts, and Nester. Clayton Jeffries homered to right field for Lenoir-Rhyne in the top of the ninth for the go ahead run for the Bears. The Indians had runners in scoring position but were unable to put a run on the board in the bottom of the ninth.
Catawba will finish the series with Lenoir-Rhyne in Newman Park on Saturday with a double header beginning at 1 pm.
