Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Newberry
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba dispatched visiting Newberry 25-8 in South Atlantic Conference women’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. It marked the second time in a week the Catawba Indians set a record for goals scored in game, besting the 24 the ladies scored on Monday against Felician. Catawba ups its record to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the SAC. The Wolves fall to 2-5 and 0-2.
Newberry got the opening goal from Sophie Moore, 45 seconds in the game. That would be the only lead for the Wolves as Catawba followed with 10 unanswered goals to go up 10-1 at the 17:02 mark of the half. Brooklyn Tilley keyed the run with three of Catawba’s first four goals.
After that run, Catawba led by at least eight goal the rest of the game, going up 17-8 at the half. The Lady Indians kept Newberry from scoring in the second half and cruised to the win.
Moore and Alexis Kahler each had two goals for Newberry. Brandy Bowman notched 12 saves in goal. Catawba held a 49-17 edge in shots.
Catawba is at home again on Thursday, hosting Indiana, of Pennsylvania at 3 pm.
