Lady Indians Sweep Past the Warriors
Central, SC -- Catawba visited Southern Wesleyan in a softball doubleheader at Varsity Field on Saturday afternoon. Catawba swept Southern Wesleyan 11-0 in the first game and game two was canceled due to rain. Catawba is now 12-11 on the year, while the Warriors are 4-15.
Catawba would scatter the elven runs amongst the five innings played. Jordan Dean would get things stared with homering to centerfield on the first pitch of the second inning. Sierra McGarthy would reach on and make her way all the way to third. Sierra would then steal home for the second run of the inning.
The fourth inning is where Catawba would score their most runs with six runs being added to the board. Dean would start things off again with a single to left field and then advancing to second on a steal. Taylor martin singled to right scoring Dean. McCarthy would single to centerfield scoring both runners on base for a score of 5-0. Leah Huggins would double to left to score McCarthy. Allie Baker singled to score Huggins. Delane Smith doubled to score Baker. The score at the end of the inning would be 8-0.
Final three runs would come in the fifth. The big hitter of the inning would be Kaylee Cook tripling to center field and scoring two runs. Huggins would then ground out to second base for the RBI for the final run to score.
Madison Hunter took the shutout win pitching all five innings. Hunter struck out five batters and only allowing four hits. H Hoskins would take the loss with a total of twelve hits given up over four and a partial innings.
Catawba will host North Georgia Wednesday March 14 for a 1 pm double header.
