Setzer Hits Ninth Homer in Loss to St. Thomas Aquinas
SALISBURY, N.C. - - Luke Setzer
hit his ninth home run of the season in the Catawba Indians’ 6-8 non-conference loss to St. Thomas Aquinas in Newman Park on Tuesday. Catawba falls to 10-15, while St. Thomas improves to 10-4.
Chance Bowden led the Indians’ offense going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Setzer had a hit and a walk with two RBIs and scored two runs for Catawba. Bryan Ketchie
started on the mound, allowing one run on four hits over four innings, while striking out three.
Setzer’s two run home run put Catawba on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Adorno led off the top of the second inning with a home run for St. Thomas. Two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for the Indians in the bottom of the second. Bowden doubled to left center to plate two more runs.
The Spartans walked the bases loaded again in the third. Harrison Baucom singled to third base to add a run for the Indians. The fourth, fifth and sixth innings were scoreless for both teams. St. Thomas tallied a run in the seventh and recorded six runs on five hits and two errors in the eighth.
The Indians were able to score one more run in the ninth on a Jackson Raper
double to left center.
Anthony Maisano led the Spartan’s offense with two hits and two RBIs. Joseph Pena, Nicholas Lucchese, and Bobby Morse each added two hits for St. Thomas. Angelo Baez earned the win, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out three over two innings pitched.
Catawba returns home for game two of the five game home stretch on Wednesday as they host Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 3 pm.
