Volleyball losses twice in matches at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, TN -- Catawba College dropped a pair of volleyball matches on Saturday afternoon at Alpine Arena on the Tusculum College campus. The Lady Indians began the day with a league loss to host Tusculum in three games, then fell in a non-conference tilt to Union, KY, also in three games. The losses drop Catawba to 4-12 overall and 2-8 in the South Atlantic Conference.Against Tusculum, Catawba battled the Pioneers to the end in every game. The scores were 32-30, 30-27 and 30-28. Junior Rachel LaRoche (Wilmington, DE) led Catawba, recording 14 kills, with eight digs and three service aces. Freshman Elizabeth Hewitt (Hickory, NC) Had 10 digs and five blocks in the loss, while freshman Hope Miller (Newton, NC) had 11 digs and eight kills. Catawba played many of its reserves in the non-conference loss to Union. The Lady Indians fell 30-24, 30-18 and 30-19. Freshman Crystal Bonner (Yadkinville, NC) had team-highs with 10 digs and six kills. Freshman Heather Hawkins (Troutman, NC) had four blocks and three kills.
