Joyce Takes Second in 800M at Winthrop adidas Inv.
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Catawba finished action on Saturday at the two-day Winthrop adidas Invitational Track and Field Meet which was held at the University’s Belk Track. Tom Joyce posted the best finish with a second in the men’s 800 meters on Saturday. Hannah Mercer had the best women’s finish as she was 11th in the 5000 meters on Friday.
Evan Wimbish was 38th in both the men’s 100 meters (11.42) and 200 meters (23.3). Taylor Marshall ran a 1:15.26 in the women’s 400 meter hurdles and was 25th. Siearra Emerson clocked in at 1:15.71 and was 26th.
Joyce posted a time of 1:56.06 in finishing second, three seconds off the winning time of Morehead State’s Justin Moakler. AJ Meadows ran in the 800 developmental and was 11th in a time of 2:13.18. In the women’s developmental 800, Patience Hunt clocked in at 2:29.36 and was third. Lea Hartwig went fifth (2:30.90) and Lexie Petty 17th (2:47.26).
Petty and Patience Hunt ran in the developmental 1500. Hunt was 16th (5:09.74) and Petty 35th (5:35.63).
Mercer ran a time of 18:21.98 for her 11th place finish for the women. Nikki Elminowski was 21st (19:14.59), Abbie Adams 22nd (19:14.75), Christina D’Amelio 33rd (20:08.53), Jordan Hunt 37th (20:26.34) and Paula Sellers 38th (20:39.22).
For the men, Kyle Rhodes was 14th (15:31.41), Curtis Carmack 16th (15:32.72), Ethan Bemis 22nd (15:45), Logan Bemis 26th (16:05.27), Drew Lake 27th (16:06.20), Michael Swepson 32nd (16:20.45), Austin Snide 35th (16:25.50) and Henry Brenner 44th (17:00.24).
In the women’s, Bell was 22nd (15.40m), Rasheed 23rd (14.60m) and Mueller 24th (14.42). Thomas had a throw of 32.53 to finish 20th in the men’s.
Bell’s throw of 22.12m put her in 45th for the women. Mueller placed 46th (19.76m) and Rasheed 47th (18.57m). Thomas was 18th with his throw of 35.77m in the men’s.
Catawba will compete in Black Mountain, N.C., at the Montreat Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
