A Trio of Homers Lead Baseball to Series Win Against Anderson
ANDERSON, S.C. - - A trio of home runs helped the Catawba Indians defeat Anderson 11-3 in the South Atlantic Conference series finale on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Catawba improves to 19-17 on the season and 13-5 in the conference, while Anderson falls to 11-21 and 6-12 in the SAC.
took the win for the Indians allowing no hits or runs over 1.2 innings. Michael Elwell started on the mound for Catawba and allowed just two runs on three hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. Luke Setzer
led Catawba offensively with three hits and four RBIs. Heath Mitchem
tallied three hits as well.
Kyle Smith led off the game with a single and was followed by a Chance Bowden home run to left field to plate the first two runs of the game. Later in the inning, Mitchem added another run on a Jacob Nester
single to take an immediate 3-0 lead.
Nester doubled down the left field line to score Joe Butts
in the top of the third. Cameron Morrison
homered to left field to score two more. Setzer hit a third two run homer to left field in the top of the fourth for the Indians to increase the lead to 8-0.
Catawba tacked on their final three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Anderson was able to plate two runs in the bottom of the half inning and one more in the bottom of the ninth.
The Indians will travel to Greenville, S.C. on Wednesday for a midweek non-conference game against North Greenville.
