Men's Lacrosse Tops Mars Hill
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Dalton Cook scored back-to-back goals to snap a fourth-quarter tie and help host Catawba slip past Mars Hill 11-9 in South Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse action on Tuesday night at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians level their record at 5-5 overall and move to 3-2 in the SAC. The Lions fall to 1-10 and 0-5.
In a tight game, Mars Hill rallied from a 6-3 deficit to pull even at 8-all on Parker Beaudry’s goal with 10:54 to play. Cook quickly put the Indians back on top just 35 second later and pushed the margin to 10-8 on his tally with 4:39 left.
Joe Barber added to the lead with his goal at the 2:49 mark before the Lions closed within 11-9 on a Jake Trafton goal with 1:39 left. Catawba won the ensuing face-off and ran out the clock to snag the win.
Barber totaled five points for Catawba with three goals and two assists. Cook and Justin Warnock, who had Catawba’s first two tallies, scored twice. Chase Scott had a goal and an assist.
Spencer Andrews had two goals and an assist for Mars Hill. Trafton and Beaudry each scored twice, while Alex Lipsky had a goal and two assists. Dima Ferreira recorded three assists with goalie Ryan Kearney posting 14 saves.
Catawba steps out of conference on Friday, hosting seventh-ranked Limestone at 7 pm.
