Baseball Drops Tight Game to #2 North Greenville
GREENVILLE, S.C. - - The Catawba Indians dropped a midweek non-conference baseball game to host #2 North Greenville on Wednesday at Fluor Field. The 5-6 loss drops Catawba to 19-18 overall, while North Greenville improves to 29-5.
Joe Butts led the Indians offense with three hits and two RBIs. Kyle Smith added two hits and Chance Bowden and Jacob Nester each recorded one hit for Catawba. Bryan Ketchie was the starting pitcher and allowed just two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts over five complete innings.
Catawba scored two runs in the opening half-inning on a Butts double to left field. North Greenville responded with two of their own in the bottom of the second inning.
The Crusaders plated two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. The Indians struck back in the top of the sixth adding three runs. North Greenville scored one more in the bottom half of the sixth to make it a tie game at 5.
Catawba was held scoreless the remainder of the game. The Crusaders added the run they needed in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly to win the game 6-5.
The Indians will return home to Newman Park for a South Atlantic Conference series against Newberry beginning Friday at 6 pm.
