Men's Golf Sits in Eighth After Day 1 of SAC Championships
ANDERSON, S.C. -- Catawba posted a 304 team total in the opening round of the South Atlantic Conference Men’s Golf Championships on Sunday and stands in a tie for eighth place. The three-round event is being held at the 7,002-yard, par-72 Cobbs Glen Golf Club through Tuesday.
Lincoln Memorial and Queens share the first-round lead after both shot a score of 296. Carson-Newman is two shots back at 298. The next seven schools are separated by just four shots.
Anderson’s Jake Miller holds the first-round lead after a five-under-par 67. Harry Butler, of Mars Hill, and Henry Bryden, of Queens, are three shots back, while Carson-Newman’s Tom Forster also broke par with a 71 to place fourth.
Mack Sheppard led Catawba in the first round with a one-over-par 71 and is among a group six tied for sixth. After a birdie on the opening hold, Sheppard fell back to three over until rallying with birdies on 12 and 13 for his one-over score. Tanner Bibey led Catawba with four birdies on the day, but was hurt by a double and a triple bogey during his round and finished with a six-over total of 78.
