Sheppard in Seventh, Men's Golf Ninth Entering Final Round of SAC Championships
ANDERSON, S.C. -- Catawba matched its opening round with another 304 in round two of the South Atlantic Conference Men’s Golf Championships on Monday. The Catawba Indians slipped to ninth heading into Tuesday’s final round. The three-round event is being held at the 7,002-yard, par-72 Cobbs Glen Golf Club.
Carson-Newman will take a one-shot lead into the final round. The Eagles shot 293 on Monday, while Newberry had the best round at 290 to close to within a shot. Wingate is in third, three shots back with a 594 total. Catawba has a 608 score.
Mack Sheppard is the top Catawba golfer as he stands seventh. He has posted rounds of 73 and 72 for a 145 total. He is six shots behind leader Jake Miller, of Anderson. Harry Butler, of Mars Hill, and Henry Bryden, of Queens, are three shots back.
Tanner Bibey stands sixth among the field with seven birdies with Sheppard just behind at six. Catawba has made 104 pars over the two rounds, which is fourth among all teams, but the Indians have made just 18 birdies which ranks 10th. Catawba has not taken advantage of the par 5s, playing those holes in 11-over-par.
