Women's Lacrosse Advances to SAC Semis With Win Over LMU
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba advanced to the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Tournament with an 18-10 opening-round win over visiting Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians, seeded third, improve to 11-7 and will face Queens in a 7 pm semifinal on Friday at Wingate University. LMU, the sixth seed, ends its season at 8-8.
Catawba jumped out to a 4-1 lead after 10 minutes. Katie Barth, Erin Green and Christina SanGiacomo snapped a 1-1 tie to give the Lady Indians a lead it never relinquished. Catawba posted a pair of goals late in the first half, one by Barth with just 16 seconds left, to push Catawba in front 9-4 at the break.
The Lady Indians scored four of the opening five goals of the second half to build on its lead. Catawba added two more after a goal from LMU’s Amara Moss to lead 15-6 entering the final 15 minutes.
Brooklyn Tilley lead Catawba with five goals and added an assist. Gianna Pezzulo handed out six assists while scoring one goals and winning four draw controls. Barth, SanGiacomo, Imani Grays and Jillian Kurolvech all scored two goals.
Moss and Erin DePaul each scored three goals for LMU. Casey Kelly posted two goals and an assist, while Kenney Buechner tallied twice.
