Women's Lacrosse Bows Out to Queens in SAC Semis
WINGATE, N.C. -- Queens moved into the finals of the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, topping third-seeded Catawba 16-6 in Friday’s nights semifinal at Gill Field on the campus of Wingate University. The Royals, seeded second, improve to 10-8, while the Catawba Indians end their season at 11-8.
Queens bolted to a 10-0 lead and held a 12-1 edge at the half. Katie Wardle had three of the goals in the opening run for the Royals. Erin Green finally put Catawba on the board with 8:21 left in the half. Queens moved ahead 16-2 with 19 minutes remaining before Catawba scored the final four goals.
Green and Imani Grays each had two goals for Catawba. Gianna Pezzulo and Brooklyn Tilley also scored, while Nicole Hunt and Lexie Stavac had assists. Madison Anselmo made 14 saves for the Lady Indians.
Allison Conn scored four goals for Queens. Wardle and Taylor Quade both had three goals and an assist. Chase Brokaw made seven saves. Nine of the Royals’ goals came on free-position shots.
