Baseball Falls in 11 Innings in SAC Tournament Final
KODAK, Tenn. -- Lincoln Memorial scored twice in the top of the 11th to win the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament Championship with a 9-7 victory over Catawba on Monday at Smokies Stadium. The Railsplitters improve to 36-19 and will advance to the NCAA II Southeast Regional Tournament. The Catawba Indians drop to 30-23 and will end its season on Saturday at USC Aiken at 4 pm.
The Railsplitters tied the game in the top of the ninth on Tyler Adams’ three-run homer. Catawba had chances to win in the ninth and tenth, but left five runners on. LMU took advantage of a pair of walks and a single to load the bases with one out in the 11th. Mason Ewers drew a walk to force home a run to put LMU up 8-7. A sacrifice fly by Joe Stucky added an insurance run.
Catawba led 7-2 after five innings. The Indians scored three times in the first and added three more in the fourth on a three-run homer by Jackson Raper. Raper went 5-for-6 with the three RBI. Chance Bowden had three hits for Catawba.
Seth Hunt enjoyed a five-hit game for LMU. Adams had three hits and four RBI. Ethan Elliott (9-3) came out of the pen with two on and no out in the ninth and worked out of trouble. He finished his three-inning stint allowing one hit with three walks and three strikeouts.
