Fair and Smith share record Swim in opening dual meet

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College defeated Agnes Scott 138-53 in its opening dual swim meet of the season. Freshmen Katherine Fair (Valdez, AK) and Lauren Smith (Seekonk, MA) highlighted the meet with a record breaking swim in the 100 breaststroke. Both swam a time of 1:13.35 and topped the old mark of 1:14.00 set by Vickie Ryan last season. Catawba earned first place swims in all ten events. Mindy Ilg (Charlotte, NC) had wins in the 200 free (2:04.28) and 500 free (5:40.37). Beth Gill (Woodbury, NJ) took first place swims in the 50 free (26.50) and the 100 free (58.56). Smith added a win in the 200 IM (2:24.34). Margeuax Doiron (Gibson, LA) took first in the 100 fly (1:02.50), while Erin Hyde (Lilburn, GA) won the 100 back (1:07.00). On Thursday, Catawba was second in the six-team Boo Bash Relay Meet. The Lady Indians were second to Wingate in each race with six of the 10 events decided by five seconds or less. The closest race was in the 200 free relay as the lady Indians were out-touched by just 3/100ths of a second. #######
