Women's Soccer Tops USC Aiken in Overtime
AIKEN, S.C. -- Freshman Katie Webb scored off a corner kick six minutes into overtime to lift Catawba to a 1-0 victory over host USC Aiken in women’s soccer action on Monday afternoon at Pacer Pit. The Catawba Indians improve to 2-0, while the Pacers fall to 0-2.
On a warm afternoon, the teams battled through regulation without a goal. The Catawba Indians finally broke through six minutes into overtime. Webb’s high arcing corner kick got over Aiken keeper Makenzie Cude at the near post and found the back of the net for the winner.
Catawba held a 24-7 edge in shots and put nine on goal to four for the Pacers. Cude stopped eight short in goal for USCA, six in the opening half. Shelby Thompson came up with four saves for the Lady Indians in posting the shutout.
Catawba returns to action on Friday at home against Barton at 7 p.m. Francis Marion and Mars Hill will face off before that match at 5 p.m.
