Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime at Mount Olive
MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Mount Olive rallied from a goal down to snag a 2-1 overtime win over visiting Catawba on Wednesday night at Amon Field. The Trojans improve to 2-0-1, while the Catawba Indians fall to 0-2.
Catawba took the lead in the later stages of the first half. Hunter Faust put home a rebound after a shot from Finley Carroll deflected off the post. That goal came in the 38th minute and sent the Indians to the half with a 1-0 edge.
The Trojans equalized quickly in the second half. In the 47th minute, Baptiste Tajan tallied off a pass from Alfie Pope. The teams finished regulation tied and Mount Olive produced the game-winner seven minutes into extra time. Pope scored the goal off a corner kick.
Mount Olive held a 19-14 edge in shots, including a 14-6 margin after the break. The Indians had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. Gianluca Tommasi posted nine saves in goal for Catawba. Austin Porter stopped five Indian shots.
Catawba returns to action on Saturday, traveling to USC Aiken for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
