Huntley, Huskins earn SAC Football Player of Week honors

ROCK HILL, SC – The South Atlantic Conference has announced its Football Players of the Week for the week ending Nov. 1, 2003. Earning honors this week are Newberry quarterback Mazi Drummond, Catawba defensive lineman Marcus Huntley and Catawba punter Pat Huskins. Drummond, a 6-0, 180, junior from Greer, SC, set a Newberry record with 479 yards of total offense as the Indians defeated Wingate 32-31. The former Greer High School standout accounted for four touchdowns in the game and provided the winning score with just seven seconds remaining. Drummond ran for 142 yards and two scores and threw for two more, completing 18-of-31 passes for 337 yards. Huntley, a 5-10, 255, red-shirt freshman from Morven, NC, was in on four tackles as seventh-ranked Catawba topped #15-ranked Tusculum 27-22. Two of the former Anson County product’s stops went for sacks, including one that forced a fumble to set up the Tribe’s final score to take a 27-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Pioneers were held to just 18 yards on the ground. Huskins (Hillsborough,NC/Orange HS), a 6-3, 205, senior, averaged a 42.1 yards over five punts. He had a long of 51 yards that was downed inside the 20. Catawba intercepted Tusculum at the 20 three plays later, leading to the opening score. He had a net punting average of 38 yards. The SAC Players of the Week are determined by a vote of the eight sports information directors of the conference schools. #####
