Women's Soccer cruises to SAC Semifinals with 7-1 win over Mars HillSALISBURY, NC – Catawba College broke two school records in a 7-1 victory over visiting Mars Hill in the first round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament on Wednesday night at Frock Field. With the victory, the Lady Indians set a new record for wins in a season, improving to 16-3-1 and advancing to Saturday’s 3pm semifinal against the #3-seed Presbyterian Blue Hose. The Lady Lions end their season at 6-14. The Lady Indians started the scoring just 11:35 into the contest as freshman Meredith Moran (Snellville, GA) fired in the first of two on the night, assisted by Kyley Thompson (Hagerstown, MD). In the 21st minute, Jen Lowe (Enfield, CT) set a season record as she picked up her 12th assist of the year sending a corner kick to Jamie Fink (Woodbridge, VA) who scored her 11th goal on the year. Catawba took a 2-0 lead into the half. Catawba wouldn’t waste any time in the second half as McKenzie Burman (Rolesville, NC) took a Kim Crowley (Glendale, AZ) pass into the back of the net for her eighth on the season in the 51st minute. Just 1:10 later, Moran would pick up her second of the night, seventh on the year, as she fired a shot into the top right corner of the goal. Thompson picked up her second helper of the night. Catawba’s third goal in the four minute span came when Stephanie Morey (Ephrata, PA) fired a shot off the crossbar, that rebounded to Fink for her second of the night, 12th of the year. Mars Hill’s lone goal of the night came in the 58th minute when Bobbie Neal (Blountville, TN) registered her first of the season on a Sierra Belk (Waldo, FL) assist. With the Lady Indians ahead 5-1 in the second half, Catawba’s Lindsey Albers (Portland, OR) fired a header off the crossbar, Crowley had a shot off the left post, and Burman a shot off the right post before Hayley Bollinger (Simpsonville, SC) picked up the rebound 40 yards out that snuck past Lady Lion goalkeeper Charity Hilterbrand (Kinston, NC) for her second on the year. Lauren Eller (Powder Springs, GA) smoked a shot in the 79th minute that hit the crossbar, which would have been her first of the year, only to have it whistled for one of the Lady Indians’ eight offsides in the game. Lowe added a goal in the 85th minute off a Crowley cross, for her fifth of the year.
