Women's Soccer Match With UNC Pembroke Abandoned Early in Second Half
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba women's soccer held a 1-0 lead over UNC Pembroke when thunderstorms forced the cancellation of the match Wednesday at the Frock Soccer Complex.
The first stoppage came with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half and lasted for nearly an hour. The teams resumed action and finished the period, before taking a shortened intermission.
Play resumed with the Indians holding a 1-0 advantage but lightning forced a second stoppage, just eight minutes later, at the 52:40 mark.
Katie Webb tallied the only goal of the contest in the 27th-minute when she bended a corner past UNC Pembroke's keeper, Gina Ryan. Webb set-up on the near side, bending her right-footed shot into the net. However, the stats will not count due to the contest being cancelled.
Catawba closes out September, with a trip to Greeneville, Tenn. Saturday. The Indians face-off with a match against league foe Tusculum at 5 p.m.
