Volleyball Drops Match at Anderson in Three Sets
ANDERSON, S.C. -- Catawba dropped a three-set South Atlantic Conference volleyball match to host Anderson on Friday night at the Abney Center. The Trojans picked up a 25-16, 25-17 and 25-19 win to improve to 19-2 overall and 10-1 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 5-14 and 1-7.
Kimberly Hurtado led Catawba with eight kills and was a part of Catawba’s only block of the night. Allie Grubb followed with five kills. Allison Benton recorded 15 digs, while Morgan Hester collected 14 assists, nine digs and served two aces.
Liliana Kinder and Regan Duty each recorded nine kills to lead Anderson. Jayln Knight and Hailee Wilhelm each added eight kills. Setter Emily Conlin had 35 assists, 15 digs and two aces.
Anderson jumped out early in both the opening two sets. The Trojans led the opener 10-3 before a Lady Indian rally got the score to 13-11. Anderson responded and were back up 20-13 after consecutive kills from Knight. The lead in set two was 11-3 before a run by Catawba closed the gap to 15-12. It was 21-17 when the Trojans scored the final four points.
Catawba got the lead to start set three, posting a 10-8 edge after an ace by Hester. The Trojans tied the set at 11 and went on to lead 21-14 to propel them to the sweep.
Catawba is at Newberry on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
