Volleyball Falls at Coker in Four
HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Host Coker came back from a one-set deficit to top Catawba in four in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Tuesday night at the DeLoach Center. The Cobras won by the scores of 22-25, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-18 as they improve to 10-8 overall and 2-7 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 6-15 and 2-8.
Catawba got 12 kills from freshman Kylie Morgan and another 11 from Allie Grubb in the loss. Morgan added a team-high 21 digs and sesrved two aces. Setter Morgan Hester had 45 assists with 17 digs, while Kimberly Hurtado recorded seven kills with three blocks.
The Lady Indians scored four of the last five points to grab the opening set. Grubb had two kills and Morgan one in the final push. Coker pulled away midway through set two then held off Catawba in set three.
Catawba was down 7-1 early in set three before trimming the deficit to a point late in the set. Grubb had a kill to make the score 24-23, but Taylor du Bray answered with a kill to save the set for the Cobras. Coker led set four 16-15 before a 6-2 run that gave them breathing room. A triple block by du Bray, Chloe Attram and Olivia Cerick got Catawba to match point and Rami Mullen ended it with a service ace.
Coker was led by du Bray, who had 15 kills, 15 digs, five blocks and two aces. Cerick added a dozen kills with Kara Overholt registering 24 digs. Mullen handed out 48 assists.
Catawba is at home on Friday, hosting Tusuclum at 7 p.m.
