Volleyball Drops Three-Set Match to Anderson
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Anderson posted a three-set sweep of host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Goodman Gym. The Trojans won by the scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-23 as they improve to 26-3 overall and 17-2 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 9-21 and 5-14.
Anderson got of the gates quickly, hitting 47% to take the opening set. The visitors raced to an 8-2 lead before Catawba regrouped and was within 15-10 after a kill from Hester. The Trojans responded with a 9-1 run and ended the set on a kill from Hailee Wilhelm.
The Trojans pulled away midway through set two. Back-to-back kills by Kathryn Hughes spurred a 6-0 Trojan run to lead 19-12. Noelle Knutsen and Emily Conlin ended the set with a combo block.
Anderson pulled out a thight third set to end the match. Catawba was down 20-12 before running off nine striaght points to take a lead. A kill from Alexa Marcy and three aces from Hester helped bring Catawba back. Anderson followed with four points, two on kills from Wilhelm to get to match point. Catawba fought off two with kills from March and Morgan Harrison before a final kill from Wilhelm ended the match.
Wilhelm paced Anderson with 13 kills and a pair of blocks. Hughes and Jayln Knight both added eight kills with Knight posting 15 digs. Emily Conlin had 37 assists and 19 digs with Emily Conard serving three aces.
Catawba will qualify for the SAC Touranment with a win at home on Saturday afternoon against Newberry at 2 p.m. The Lady Indians could get in with a loss depending on the outcome of other league matches.
