Nine Named to Football All-SAC Teams
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- The South Atlantic Conference announced its 2018 football all-conference teams and award winners on Wednesday. Catawba placed nine players on the All-SAC teams with four first team selections.
First team honors went to senior running back Kenyatta Greene, senior offensive lineman Quinzavious Sands, senior tight end Jourdan Osinskie and sophomore linebacker Jeremiah Ferguson. Claiming second team honors were junior wide receiver Will Sweeper, senior kicker Lee Brackman, senior defensive lineman Jordan Hemingway, junior defensive back Cris Page and Greene as a return specialist.
Greene, who has been limited the last three games with an injury, leads Catawba in rushing with 560 yards and a 56 yard per game average which stands seventh in the league. He has added 23 catches for 249 yards and accounted for nine touchdowns. He ranks third in the SAC in all-purpose yardage (121.6). As a returner, he has averaged 19 yards on kickoff returns and 11.4 yards on punts, which includes a 71-yard touchdown.
Sands has been a four-year starter for Catawba, mainly at left guard. Recently, due to injuries, he has seen action at center. Osinskie leads the Indians in receptions with 27 totaling 347 yards. He has one touchdown grab. Ferguson is number two on the defense in tackles with 77. He has picked up six stops for losses with an interception.
Sweeper has been a deep treat on offense, averaging a league-best 22.8 yards per reception. He has 24 catches for 548 yards and six scores. Brackman has totaled 57 points on the year, connecting on 30-of-35 PATs and is 9-of-14 on field goals.
Hemingway has recorded 44 tackles on the season. He has notched five sacks with eight and half for losses. He has forced a fumble and blocked two kicks. Page has been in on 32 tackles with one interception. He has broke up eight other passes with a forced fumble and a recovery.
Craig Rucker, of Mars Hill, was the Offensive Player of the Year and Wingate’s Carell Rawlings claimed the Defense Player of the Year honor. Wingate’s Nijere Peoples took the league’s Offensive Freshman of the Year honor with Tusculum’s Nelson Louis earning the Defensive Freshman of the Year. Lenoir-Rhyne’s Jason Poe was named the Jacobs Blocking Trophy award winner and Lenoir-Rhyne head coach Drew Cronic took home Coach of the Year honors.
