Women's Basketball falls by a bucket at Kennesaw StateKENNESAW, GA - Catawba College dropped its second game at the Ron Walker Memorial Classic at the Spec Landrum Centre on Saturday afternoon, falling 83-81 to host Kennesaw State. The loss drops Catawba to 1-2, while the Lady Owls improve to 3-0. Ashley Cox (Richmond, VA), who earned all-tournament honors, led Catawba with 21 points, while Aisha Stewart (Topeka, KS) tossed in 20. Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) scored 17 points and dished out six assists before fouling out with two minutes to play and seeing just 19 minutes of action. Denisha Ferguson had 23 points and 14 rebounds for Kennesaw, while Kristina Usaite added 22. Catawba jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead and held that advantage until a 7-0 run by KSU tied the score at 21-21 with 10:41 left in the half. The teams would trade leads much of the remainder of the half with the Lady Indians taking a 41-40 halftime lead on a bucket by Cox with 10 seconds left. Locklear picked up her fourth foul in the first minute of the second half and Kennesaw took advantage, grabbing a 54-43 lead by the 14:29 mark. The Lady Owls kept the double-digit lead until Catawba made a run in the final five minutes. A layup by Stewart cut the lead to five at 75-70 with 3:51 remaining and a three-pointer by the senior reduced the margin to 79-75 with 1:53 left. A layup by Tamekia Foster (Norfolk, VA) cut the lead to 79-77 with 1:21 to go, but Dominika Miezkowska drilled a three-pointer with a minute left to give Kennesaw an 82-77 edge. Cox got the Lady Indians within 82-79 on a pair of free throws with 48 seconds left, but Lauren Gaines hit one of two free throws with 18 ticks remaining to give KSU a four-point lead. Foster hit a layup with under a second to play for the final margin. #####
