Locklear garners first SAC Women's Basketball Player of Week honor

ROCK HILL, SC -- Danyel Locklear of Catawba College has been named this year's first South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week announced league officials Monday. Locklear, a 6-0 senior center from Pembroke, N.C., posted a pair of double-doubles, including a 31-point, 24-rebound performance in a loss to Georgia College & State University. Locklear's 24-board tally against GC&SU was just one shy of a school record and tied for third most in South Atlantic Conference history. The Ragsdale High School graduate averaged 23 points and 13.7 rebounds per game in three outings for the Lady Indians. Locklear had 17 points in just 19 minutes of action, due to foul trouble in an 83-81 loss at Kennesaw State University. She posted 21 points and a dozen rebounds in Catawba's 88-65 season-opening victory over Ohio Valley. On the week, Locklear shot 28-for-41 from the floor for 68.3 percent. The SAC Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league's eight sports information directors. #####
