Softball Splits Games on Saturday at NGU Classic
DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Catawba split a pair of softball games at the North Georgia Campus Connection Classic on Saturday afternoon at Hill Stadium. In game one, Catawba fell 11-0 to host and seventh-ranked North Georgia then came back to top Palm Beach Atlantic 7-6. The Catawba Indians move to 9-5 on the year.
Against Palm Beach Atlantic, Jordan Dean followed a RBI double by Preston Ellenberg with a two-run homer as the Lady Indians turned a 5-4 deficit into a 7-5 lead in the top of the sixth. The Sailfish got a run back in the seventh, but Madison Hunter stranded the tying run at third with a pop up to the circle to end the game.
Leah Huggins had a pair of hits and scored twice in the win. Ellenberg and Dean each drove in two. Ellenberg (4-1) also got the win, throwing five inning. Hunter picked up second save, allowing a run on one hit over the final two frames.
The Lady Indians managed just two hits against the Nighthawks in the opener. Allie Baker and Carlee Brawley were able to rap out singles in the loss. North Georgia scored six times in the third then added another four in the sixth.
Laken Chambers (5-1) went five innings and scattered the two hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Marley Stowers had two the NGU’s 14 hits and drove in three runs. Hobby Gregory and Lexi Duncan also had two hits.
Catawba will face the same two teams again on Sunday beginning with PBA at 10 a.m.
