Track & Field Lowers 10 More Records at LR Meet
HICKORY, N.C. -- Catawba notched 10 more school records on Saturday on the final day of the Lenoir-Rhyne Southside Power & Fitness Invitational Track & Field Meet at Belk Track. Catawba also got wins from Tom Joyce in the men’s 800 meters and from the women’s 4x100 relay team.
The 4x100 team of Kierra McNeill, Bryannah Smith-Cunningham, Maddie Bohannon and Akenna Maxwell was one of the records broke. They posted a time of 47.87 and edged Lenoir-Rhyne by just over two-tenths of a second. Smith-Cunningham set an individual record in the 200 meters with a 26.34.
Catawba set five records in field events. Elyjah Thomas broke his own mark in the men’s hammer throw at 28.30 meters. Candace Swepson posted her third record of the meet with a throw of 30.55 meters in the women’s discus. Danille Ortiz set a record in the women’s shot put at 10.02 meters. The other two marks came from MeKayla White in the women’s long jump (5.26m) and Samiyah Rasheed in the women’s high jump (1.45m).
For the men, Rashaun Noble established a mark of 59.61 in the 400 meter hurdles and both relay teams set records. The 4x100 team of Terrell Johnson, Justen Burnette, Rashaun Noble and Darius Turner clocked a time of 41.54 and were just nine-hundredths behind winner Lenoir-Rhyne. The 4x400 team of Turner, Joyce, Brien Pittman and Rontrel Felton had a record time of 3:25.09.
Catawba will compete at the High Point VertKlasse Meet next Friday and Saturday.
