Men's Lacrosse Rallies From Early Hole to Top LMU 13-12
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba set a new record for consecutive wins, rallying from six goals down to top Lincoln Memorial 13-12 in South Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians won for the seventh straight time in improving to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the SAC. The Railsplitters fall to 3-7 and 1-3.
Shawn Casebolt won the ensuing face-off for Catawba, but a turnover gave LMU a chance to tie. Kevin Geiger came up with a save Kyle Arcuri with 2:09 left then saw Arcuri fire hit with 1:41 to go. A turnover gave the ball back to the Indians, who ran out the clock.
LMU led 3-2 after a quarter then posted five unanswered goals to start the second quarter. Ian Cook scored the final two in the span of a minute for the 8-2 bulge with 2:48 left in the half. Catawba gained momentum with three goals to end the half, two in the final 12 seconds.
Bellotte got the first then Casebolt won the face-off and scored with just three seconds remaining to make it 8-5. The Indians crept within a goal four times before Fanzo eventually tied it with 6:12 to go.
Cook led LMU with three goals. Arcuri, Christ Tucker and Robert Tucker each had two goals and an assist. Trenton Cameron made seven saves.
Geiger stopped 10 shots for Catawba. Casebolt won 12 of the last 19 face-offs and was 14-of-29 on the day with nine ground balls. The Indians caused 14 turnovers, three each from Reese Scott, Payton Leonard and Shane McCormick, who scored a goal.
Catawba will travel to Mars Hill next Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest with the Lions.
