Locklear's double-double helps Women's Basketball to win over Livingstone

SALISBURY, NC – Catawba College shook off a cold shooting start and defeated visiting Livingstone 71-63 in women’s college basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. Senior Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Lady Indians, who improve to 4-3. Livingstone falls to 2-4. Catawba made just one of its first 14 shots and fell behind 12-3 after six minutes. The Lady Indians would quickly cut the deficit to 12-11 by the 12:05 mark and take its first lead on the second of two free throws by Kendall Prescott (Exeter, NH) with 1:44 before the half. Catawba led 31-26 at the break. Livingstone held brief leads early in the second half, the last coming after a layup by Sherree Gillespie (Salisbury, NC) with 13:58 remaining for a 41-39 lead. Selia Monroe (Springfield, VA) answered for Catawba with a three-pointer and the Lady Indians never trailed again. After a cold shooting first half (28%), Catawba made 12 of its first 18 shots of the final half and finished the game at 37%. Catawba would hold a 47-33 edge on the boards with Ingrid Easter (Cana, VA) joining Locklear with 10 rebounds for the Lady Indians. Aisha Stewart (Topeka, KS) also tallied 17 points for Catawba. Kautelza Richards (Walterboro, SC) led Livingstone with 19 points, while Gillespie added 17 and eight rebounds. #####
