Women's Tennis Storms Back in Singles to Top Carson-Newman
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba claimed five singles wins to come away with a 5-2 victory over visiting Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference women’s tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Wingate Tennis Complex. The Catawba Indians up their mark to 12-5 overall and 3-3 in the SAC. The Eagles fall to 7-7 and 4-3.
Carson-Newman took the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3. Catawba took the #2 flight as Sophie Hirsch and Una Pandurevic claimed a 7-6 win, taking the tiebreaker 7-2.
In singles, the Eagles won at #1 behind Ana Carla Resesnde, but that would be the lone point for C-N in singles as Catawba swept the remaining contests. Four of the five Catawba won in straight sets. Hirsch and Pandurevic #2 and #3. Carolina Correia, who returned from an injury, at #4 and Olivia Wooldridge at #5. Lauren Laughton rallied from a set down to win in a third-set tiebreaker.
Catawba will host Queens in another SAC match on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
