Women's Tennis Falls to Queens
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba lost to 23rd-ranked Queens 5-2 in South Atlantic Conference women’s tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. The visiting Royals improve to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 12-6 and 3-4.
Queens won all three doubles matches to go on top 1-0. The Royals extended the lead with wins at #1, #3 and #5. Erisa Onchi put up a three-set fight at #1, dropping the final two sets 6-4 after taking the first set in a tiebreaker.
Winning points for Catawba were Sophie Hirsch at #2 and Lauren Laughton at #6. Hirsch stayed unbeaten in conference play with a three-set win. She fought off four match points and won 7-4 in a third-set tiebreaker. Laughton also won in three-sets.
Catawba travels to Newberry next Tuesday for a 2 p.m. match.
