Brink's 74 Paces Women's Golf in Opening Round of SAC Championships
HICKORY, N.C. -- The Catawba women’s golf stands sixth after Sunday’s first round of the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championships. The three-round tournament, which will conclude on Tuesday, is being held at the 6,065-yard, par-72 Fox Run Course of the Lake Hickory Country Club at Catawba Springs.
Sandra Brink led Catawba on day one. She posted a two-over-par 74 and stands in a tie for third. She played even over the front nine with one bogey and a birdie on the par-5 No. 8. Brink was two-over on the back, collecting a birdie on the par-5 No. 14.
Sarah Coltrane and Kaley Barts made the turn at two-over-par and were still at +2 through 16, but each found trouble on the final two holes. Coltrane finished with a 77 and Barts a 78. Both are in the top 20 after one round.
Wingate’s Diana McDonald holds the first round lead with an even-par 72. She leads Abbey Hartsell, of Lenoir-Rhyne, by a single shot. Brink is among five golfers two back. Lenoir-Rhyne leads the team race by a single shot over Wingate. LR posted a 300 score. Catawba totaled a 315.
