Women's Golf Places Ninth at SAC Championships
HICKORY, N.C. -- Catawba kept its spot after the final round of the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championships on Tuesday, finishing ninth. The Championship was held at the 6,065-yard, par-72 Fox Run Course of the Lake Hickory Country Club at Catawba Springs.
Anderson matches its tournament low with another 298 on Tuesday to claim the SAC Championship by four shots over Lenoir-Rhyne. Anderson had a 907 score for three rounds. Wingate was third at 914. Catawba shot a 319 on Tuesday and finished with a 958 total.
Sandra Brink and Sarah Coltrane had the best scores for Catawba on Tuesday as both posted a 79. Brink finished with the lowest three-round score for Catawba at 235 and was 21st. Kaley Barts was a shot back in 26th, while Coltrane ended up 32nd with a 238. Hailey Barajas had her best round of the Championships with an 81 on Tuesday and placed 47th.
Barts got off to a hot start with three birdies in her first five holes to help offset a double bogey. Her round was derailed by an eight on her 11th hole, the par-4 second. Barts fought back with a late birdie to give her four on the day. Brink closed with three birdies on her second nine, while Coltrane and Barajas each had one in their round.
Maeve Cummins, of Carson-Newman, shot back-to-back rounds of 72 and claimed medalist honors. Her 219 total was three shots better than Diana McDonald, of Wingate. Lenoir-Rhyne’s Abbey Hartsell and Megan Robb tied for third at 224.
