HICKORY, N.C. -- Catawba added another South Atlantic Conference Track & Field Championship on Saturday as the women’s 4x100 relay team took the top spot at the SAC Championships at Lenoir-Rhyne’s Belk Track. It was one of four school records broken on Saturday. Catawba’s men finished sixth at the Championships and the women were eighth.

The 4x100 relay team posted a record time of 47.75. Kierra McNeill ran the leadoff with Bryannah Smith-Cunningham and Maddie Bohannon following. Akeena Maxwell ran the anchor leg. Also breaking records was Tom Joyce, who ran a 4:00.22 in the men’s 1500 meters, Samiyah Rasheed, who scored 4,876 points in the women’s heptathlon, and the men’s 4x400 relay team with a time of 3:18.82.

The men’s 4x400 was one of the closest on the track as the top three times were separated by less than four-tenths of a second. Catawba was edged for third by just six one-thousandths of a second. Justen Burnette was leadoff and was followed by RahQuan Terry, Braxton Ford and anchor Brien Pittman.

Joining the 4x100 team as medallists on Saturday was Pittman and MeKayla White. Pittman took third in the 400 meters with a time of 49.15. White followed her championship in the long jump with a third in the triple jump with a leap of 10.90 meters.

Ethan Bemis was fifth in the men’s 1500 meters (4:00.68) and Nolan Chilton fifth in the decathlon (4,876 points). Smith-Cunningham claimed sixth in the 100 meters (12.48) and eighth in the 200 meters (25.83), while Darius Turner was sixth in the men’s 100 meters (10.82) and seventh in the 200 meters (22.95). Her second-day point total of 1,128 was also a school mark. Chilton set a school decathlon mark in the javelin with a throw of 32.95 meters.
