Tilley Scores Three Times in Season-Ending Loss to Wingate
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba fell to Wingate 11-9 in the first round of the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Bulldogs, seeded fifth, improve to 9-8 and advance to Friday’s semifinals. The fourth-seeded Catawba Indians end their season at 8-9.
Nicole Hunt scored for Catawba just over a minute into the game, but the Bulldogs came back with five unanswered goals and led throughout. Kendall Wells started the run, which covered a four and half minute span that was capped by Emily Ketron’s tally at the 22:13 mark.
Catawba closed the half scoring four of the last six goals, three by Brooklyn Tilley, to pull within 7-5 at the break. The Lady Indians cut the margin to a single goal three times in the final half, but could not pull even.
Colleen Green twice cut the margin to one goal, but each time Wingate answered within a minute. Green’s final goal came at the 5:21 mark then the Bulldogs’ Casey Roux tallied with 4:36 to go for the final margin.
Wingate got three goals and an assist from Wells. Roux had a pair of goals with six other Bulldogs scoring once. Arion Pierre notched two saves. Wingate held an advantage in draw controls, winning 16 of 21 chances.
