Men's Lacrosse Knocked Off in SAC Semifinals
WINGATE, N.C. -- Catawba fell to Queens 14-2 in the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Tournament on Friday night at Graham Gill Stadium on the campus of Wingate University. The Royals, ranked 16th in NCAA II, improve to 12-3. The 20th-ranked Catawba Indians, seeded second, end their season at 9-6.
Queens kept Catawba off the scoreboard until the final three minutes of the first half, building a 4-0 edge. Tony Bellotte finally broke the ice at the 2:35 mark of the second quarter. The Royals added a late goal to take a 5-1 edge to the break.
Catawba’s Cole Fanzo scored just 45 seconds in the third quarter to pull the Indians within 5-2, but that would be the last score for Catawba on the night. Queens went on to scored three times in the quarter and added six in the fourth for the final margin.
Griffin Stechmiller led Queens with three goals and an assist. Kealan Pilon and Kevin Barry each had a goal and an assist. Fanzo added an assist for Catawba and Kevin Geiger posted eight saves.
