Volleyball Announces Four More Commitments For Upcoming Season

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College Head Volleyball Coach, Patrick Nicolas, has announced the four more additions for the 2019-20 season. The four players will play both indoor and beach volleyball. Joining the program will be Morgan Pearson, of Richmond Hill, Ga., Jasmine Wooten, of Hope Mills, N.C., Malia Carr, of Arcadia, Calif., and Shaiann Palos, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Carr and Palos will be members of the initial beach team next spring.

Pearson, an outside hitter, played last season at Converse. In 2018 with the Valkyries, she posted 283 kills with 307 digs and was an academic all-conference performer. At Calvary Day School, she was a second team all-region selection as a senior and twice honorable mention. Pearson helped the Cavaliers to a 126-31 record over her career and three Georgia 1A State Championships. She played with Club Savannah.

Wooten is an outside hitter from Freedom Christian Academy. She was twice named the 910Preps Regional Volleyball Player of the Year and in 2017 was the Sandhills Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Wooten helped FCA to 2A championships in both volleyball and softball. She played club for L2 Volleyball Club.

Carr, a junior, is a transfer from Mt. San Antonio College. She played in 54 indoor matches over two seasons, posting 807 digs and serving 99 aces. She led the team in both categories each year with 55 aces and 456 digs as a sophomore. Carr was the Libero of the Year in 2017 and first team all-conference in 2018. In beach, she was a second team all-conference selection. At Arcadia High School, Carr was named Most Inspirational as a senior. She played club for the San Gabriel Elite Volleyball Club.

Palos joins Carr, her beach partner for two seasons, from Mt. San Antonio College. A junior, she posted 197 kills over 25 matches last season while adding 76 digs and 16 blocks. She was twice named second team all-conference in indoor. Last season, she was a second team all-conference beach performer. At Summit High School, Palos helped the Sky Hawks to a pair of conference titles and was all-conference as a senior. She played for Pursuit Rancho and Forza Volleyball Clubs.
