Volleyball Picked Eighth in SAC Poll, Open Season on Tuesday


ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba was picked in a tie for eighth in 2019 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll. The Catawba Indians were slated along side Tusculum. Wingate garnered 10 first-place votes and is the favorite. Anderson is second and received the other two first-place votes.

Catawba did not have anyone named to the preseason All-SAC teams, but do return several key contributors, including hitter Kylie Morgan, middle Allie Grubb and setter Morgan Hester. Morgan posted 196 kills as a freshman last season, including a team-best 2.33 per set. Grubb, a senior, posted a team-high 230 kills and 63 blocks. Hester, also a senior, averaged nine assists per set.

The 2019 SAC Women’s Volleyball season got underway last weekend. Catawba, under new head coach, Patrick Nicholas, opens play on Tuesday at Lenoir-Rhyne at 7 p.m..
