Men's Basketball remains winless in SACMARS HILL, NC – Mars Hill College pulled away in the final six minutes and defeated visiting Catawba 78-66 in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Stanford Arena. MHC has won eight of their last 10 contests and improve to 9-7 overall and 2-1 in the SAC. Catawba falls to 5-11 and 0-3. The first half was very close seeing seven ties and four lead changes. The teams went into the locker room at the intermission tied at 32. Catawba started the second half on a 13-5 run to take an eight-point advantage (45-37) with 14:11 left in the game after Timo Verwimp (Cologne, Germany) hit a shot in the paint. After a Lion timeout, MHC out scored the Indians 14-4 over the next four minutes of play to obtain a two-point lead (51-49) with 10:19 on the clock after Chris Conn (Morehead, KY) hit two of his 23 points in the contest. MHC would never trail again. The Lions built a 10-point lead with 5:28 left in regulation after Ronald Lewis (New Orleans, LA) hit a 3-pointer. MHC cruised after this point for the 12-point victory. Lewis led all scorers with 25 points hitting five 3-pointers and connecting on 8-of-9 free throw attempts. He also recorded eight assists and three steals in the win. Conn added 23 points and 10 boards hitting 9-of-16 of his field goal attempts. Walt Baxley (Winston-Salem, NC) tallied 10 points for the Lions. Verwimp and Brian Graves (Newport News, VA) led Catawba scoring 12 points apiece. Chris Wooldridge (Norfolk, VA) scored 11 points and pulled down five rebounds off the bench for the Indians. Catawba received 30 points from their bench in the game. #####
