Volleyball Falls to Lenoir-Rhyne 3-1 in Season Opener
Hickory, N.C. -- The Catawba volleyball team began their 2019 season on the road with a conference match against Lenoir-Rhyne tonight, losing three sets to one. It was a hard fought battle, as the first and fourth sets finished with a score of 30-28. The Indians took the second set 25-21, and the Bears took the third set 25-17.
The star of the night for Catawba was Kylie Morgan. Morgan finished the match with 27 kills, which is a career high and ranks tied for 11th for most kills in a match in school history. Morgan also had a hit percentage of 0.382 and had 9 digs on the night. For the Bears, it was Taylor Prall who set the tone as she finished with 22 kills and 10 digs of her own.
The Indians were oh-so-close to forcing a fifth set tie-breaker as the teams went back and forth trading the lead late in the fourth set. Morgan and Prall kept their squads in the game until Prall put the match away with her 22nd kill to seal the win. For the match, the Bears won the kills battle with 62, while Catawba finished with 54. Morgan Hester also had a great night for the Indians, as she collected 49 of the teams' 52 assists. Hester also had 12 digs on the match.
Catawba will be back in action this Friday as they travel to Mars Hill for another conference match-up at 7 p.m., while the team will play their first home match this Saturday against Chowan at 7 p.m.
