Womens Soccer Improves to 3-0 on the Season with 3-0 Victory Over USC Aiken
Salisbury, N.C. -- It was all Catawba tonight as the Indians took care of USC Aiken 3-0 in their home opener. The win improves the team's record to 3-0 to start the season, and they have now outscored their opponents 9-2 in their first three games.
All the scoring came in the first half for Catawba, as they took a 1-0 lead when Ashley Bornkamp scored on as assist by Carson Shoeppe. As the half continued, Catawba scored again when Maddie Capel put one in the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
At the end of the first half, Courtney Reavis scored to put the Indians ahead 3-0, and that would be all Catawba would need as the second half went scoreless from both sides.
Catawba outshot USC Aiken 31-13 for the game, and 13-5 in shots-on-goal. The Indians also led the game in corner kicks with 13. Goalkeeper Shelby Thompson improves her record to 2-0 on the season. Coach Nick Brown said of his team's performance, "I thought it was a good game tonight. I thought the girls brought a good energy out there. We created a ton of opportunities...the three (goals) they put away were great and most importantly we kept the shut-out so I'm really happy about that."
Next up for Catawba is a home match against Queens University on September 18th. Game time is scheduled for 5 pm.
